Detailed Description

Nice flying Cessna 172RG Cutlass RG with retractable gear, constant-speed propeller, and the 180 hp Lycoming O-360-F1A6 engine. This is a great step-up airplane for someone wanting to build complex time, work toward commercial training, or own an economical cross-country aircraft with familiar Cessna handling and better performance than a fixed-gear 172.

This Cutlass offers a practical combination of speed, useful load, and fuel economy. It cruises around 130-135 knots while burning roughly 10 gallons per hour. With 66 gallons of fuel and an approximate 1,017 lb useful load, it makes a very capable and efficient personal aircraft.

The aircraft is currently being flown, so all times are approximate and subject to change. At the September 2025 annual, the airframe total time was approximately 9,004.8 hours, tach time was 1,147.1, and engine time since major overhaul was approximately 1,364.8 SMOH. The engine is a Lycoming O-360-F1A6, 180 hp, and the airplane has a McCauley constant-speed propeller.

During the September 2025 annual, the landing gear system received significant attention, including actuator work, seals, bearings, brake service, tire and tube replacement, hydraulic servicing, and successful gear retraction testing. The oil and filter were changed, spark plugs were serviced, the air filter was replaced, magnetos were timed, and compressions were 74/74/76/76.

The panel has older but practical IFR equipment, including Garmin GNC 300XL GPS/COM, King KX155 NAV/COM, Stratus ESG ADS-B In/Out transponder, King KMA26 audio panel with 4-place intercom, King KMD 150 GPS moving map, and Electronics International digital engine instruments. A Precise Flight vacuum backup system is also installed. The aircraft currently does not have an autopilot.

The airplane was repainted in 2005. Paint is not perfect, but the aircraft presents well overall. Interior is in good condition, with leather seats, good windows and headliner, and STC'd BAS inertia reel shoulder harnesses for the front seats. The carpet is fair. Exterior lighting has been upgraded to LED, except for the taxi light.

Complete airframe and engine logs are available. The aircraft has no insurance total-loss history. A documented gear-up landing repair was completed in 1992. ADs were current and complied with at the September 2025 annual.

N4714R is a solid, honest Cutlass RG that is simple to operate, economical to fly, and well suited for cross-country flying, complex time, or commercial training.

Avionics / Equipment

The panel has older but practical IFR equipment. ADS-B In and Out is provided through a Stratus ESG transponder system. Primary NAV/COM equipment includes a Garmin GNC 300XL GPS/COM and a King KX155 NAV/COM, with the KX155 overhauled in 2020. A Cessna ARC RT385A is installed as backup. The aircraft also has a King KMA26 audio panel with marker beacon capability and a 4-place intercom.

For situational awareness, the airplane has a King KMD 150 GPS moving map. An ARC ADF remains installed. A Precise Flight STC vacuum backup system adds safety in the event of vacuum pump failure, and the main vacuum pump was overhauled in 2019. Electronics International digital oil temperature/pressure, fuel temperature/pressure, CHT, and EGT gauges replace or back up the original analog engine instruments. The aircraft currently does not have an autopilot installed.

Additional equipment includes a Tanis STC engine preheat system, retractable landing gear, constant-speed propeller, and LED exterior lighting.

Airframe

Airframe total time at the September 2025 annual was approximately 9,004.8 hours. The aircraft is currently being flown, so all times are approximate and subject to change. During the September 2025 annual, the landing gear system received significant attention, including actuator work, seals, bearings, brake service, tire and tube replacement, hydraulic servicing, and successful gear retraction testing.

Engines / Mods / Prop

Powered by a Lycoming O-360-F1A6, 180 hp engine. Engine time at the September 2025 annual was approximately 1,364.8 hours since major overhaul. The engine received an Eagle Engines "Marquis Series" overhaul in 2008 with new Lycoming cylinders. The aircraft is equipped with a McCauley constant-speed propeller, model B2D34C220-B. The engine and propeller were overhauled at the same time in 2008, and the older listing showed both at 1,160 hours since overhaul at that time.
At the September 2025 annual, the oil and filter were changed, spark plugs were serviced, the air filter was replaced, magnetos were timed to 25°, and cylinder compressions were 74/74/76/76. The engine also has a lightweight Sky-Tec starter motor. Times are approximate and will continue to change because the aircraft is currently being flown.

Interior / Exterior

The aircraft was repainted in 2005. Paint is not perfect, but the airplane presents well overall. The lower cowling and nose gear doors could benefit from cosmetic attention if desired. Main gear tires were replaced in 2022 and are in excellent condition. Exterior lighting has been upgraded to LED, except for the taxi light. The aircraft has complete airframe and engine logbooks available, FAA airworthiness records available, no insurance total-loss history, and a documented gear-up landing repair from 1992.

The interior is in good condition with leather front and rear seats, good windows, good headliner, and STC'd BAS inertia reel shoulder harnesses installed for the front seats. Carpet is fair. This is a comfortable, honest Cutlass RG suited for cross-country flying, complex time, or commercial training.
