This is one, remarkably gorgeous restoration of an aircraft! I’ve seen aircraft renovation. And I’ve seen very nice aircraft renovation. But only once in a very great while have I come upon absolutely exemplary aircraft renovation craftsmanship!

Remarks

I was contacted in late 2020 by a long term client of mine of whom is a self, proclaimed, OCD, anal retentive neat freak, and Mr. Monk type, about his cars, his motorcycles, his telephone, his bathtub, his hangar floors, and especially his airplanes!! He proclaimed, “Kirby, I want a J3 Cub, I want it now, and I want it as perfect as humanly possible!” Not a particularly easy order to fill, especially on a tight time schedule. But as he was, a repeat client, a close friend, and a truly kind soul, I was determined to fulfill his desires. I informed him it could take anywhere from 6 months to a couple of years to find such and airplane, but would give it my best. Well……..I was quite blessed by the Good Lord that day, as I brought up Barnstormers on my computer, went to the J3 Cub section, and lo and behold, right before my eyes was an absolutely gorgeous Cub restoration. And that sort of thing, just doesn’t happen! Surely the photos were cleverly Photo-shopped, or something else was wrong, I thought. However, upon contacting and chatting with Mr. Matt Chapman about his recent renovation, my confidence began to grow. I discovered that we were old acquaintances from when we were both in the airshow business many years before. I requested he send me a few more photos and he said he would. When I turned on my computer next morning I nearly fainted at what Mr. Chapman had sent. He’d attached over 400 photos of each and every step of the restoration of N38812. And the photos depicted unsurpassed craftsmanship in each and every process and detail of the restoration. It was Boeing Museum/Smithsonian quality workmanship of a caliber rarely seen today. My client agreed to buy the airplane essentially sight un-seen! Nuf said!

If you are indeed a very discriminating individual with nothing but the very best in your toy box, then N38812 should most certainly populate your stable! You will not be disappointed! I mean what I say about the airline ticket refund if you visit and the airplane proves to be less than expected. I’ve offered the same on many remarkable airplanes in the past, and I’ve not been asked to pay out yet! Call Kirby Totty at 615-972-7423 or email k.totty@comcast.net
We’ll keep the hangar lights on and look forward to seeing you soon!
