1941 PIPER J-3C Clippedwing Famous Airshow and National Aerobatic Winning Aircraft. This airplane was custom ordered from Piper in 1941 by airshow legend Bevo Howard and is the only factory clipped wing Cub in the world. The airplane was special ordered with PA-12 Gear for a clean appearance and an 80 hp engine. It has since been upgraded with a Lycoming O-360 with a Christen Inverted System. Great airshow airplane with lots of history and fantastic performance. Could be restored to the original factory specification or turned into a great STOL / Fun airplane. Empty weight with full oil 834 lbs! With 180 hp up front, it is a beast! Factory Certified Experimental Exhibition.
Avionics / Equipment
King Radio. No other avionics.
Airframe
1941 Factory J3C custom built with PA-12 Gear for airshow legend Bevo Howard. Removed from service in 2008 and recovered. In my opinion, the recover job is not all that great. I would strip it down, repaint the steel tubular and recover. Wings were rebuilt with Taylorcraft BC12D ribs with a semi-symmetrical airfoil and nearly full span ailerons. Wings are 80% complete. Wings have extra tanks for long distance ferry flights. Great performance and high speed cruise. (for a Cub).
Engines / Mods / Prop
Lycoming O-360 L515036 overhauled in 1967, 826 hours SMOH solid crank with Christen Inverted Oil System. Engine was pickled when the aircraft was taken out of service for re-build.
Interior / Exterior
The airplane deserves a ground up restoration. this is a very historic Cub and should be restored to factory original appearance, or continue on as an fun airshow performer.
