The PA-32R-300 was produced from 1976 to 1978 and marketed as the Piper Lance model and the Piper Turbo Lance. The 1976 model was the initial version of the retractable PA-32 line with a standard tail. Later models featured a tail modified to a "T" design with a stabilator moved to the top of the vertical tail. Beginning with the PA-32RT-300 model the Cherokee name was dropped and the model as known as the Piper Lance II. The Lance II also had the "T" tail arrangement. The PA-32RT-300T is a turbocharged aircraft known as the Piper Turbo Lance II. The PA-32R-301 was produced from 1980 to 2007. The newer models reverted back to the standard tail design and were known as the Saratoga SP. Several cosmetic and system updated were done in 1993 and the PA-32R-301 was redesignated the Saratoga II HP. The PA-32R-301T is known as the Turbo Saratoga SP and is turbocharged. In 1997 the model received a new Lycoming TIO-540-AH1A engine and named the Saratoga II TC.
