50 hrs since complete restoration to concourse standards.

The Ryan ST-M (Sport Trainer-Military)  series was an export military version of the pre-war ST-A sports aircraft, powered by a 150hp Menasco C4S Pirate engine. The ST-Ms were built at Ryan Aeronautical Co’s works at Lindbergh Field, San Diego in Southern California. All Australian examples were STM-2 models, which had been previously delivered to Netherlands Naval Air Force (Marine Luchrvaart Dienst) based in the Netherlands East Indies (now Indonesia). ‘S-23’, S/N 459, VH-AWG is one of those survivors.

Purchased as a project by the current owner in 1995 and trucked to Tyabb, Vic, the STM underwent a 5 year 100 point restoration by Ryan ‘Gurus’ John and Charles Govers with the Menasco being overhauled by antique engine ‘Wiz’ Borg Sorenson.  
 
S-23 can be operated as a dual control, two-seat trainer, or the front cockpit can be easily fitted with a fairing that converts this majestic classic into a slee
