Though still under development, the Cirrus SF50 has over 500 production positions reserved. The aircraft design is to be a single-engine, low- wing, very light, seven seat, personal use jet aircraft. The SF50 is not entering the market to compete with the other light jet aircraft like the Eclipse 500 or the Cessna Citation Mustang. Instead, the Cirrus SF50 is to be more comparable with the Diamond D-Jet.
The SF50 will be fitted with a Ballistic Recovery System parachute located in the nose of the jet. The Garmin G1000 avionics system was used in the end over other packages.
Cirrus announced in 2010 that they would be building a prototype that should be flying by then end of 2011 with certification to follow by 2013.
