Designed and built by Rockwell International in the 1970s, the Rockwell Commander 112 is an American four seat cabin, single piston-engine monoplane. The 112 has the capacity for one crew member and three passengers. The empty weight is 2070 lb (939 kg) and the gross weight is 3260 lb (1479 kg). The maximum speed is 191 mph (307 km/h).
Rockwell designed and built two versions of a four seat cabin, low-wing monoplane in 1970. The fixed tricycle landing gear Commander 111 and the retractable tricycle landing gear Commander 112. The company decided that only the 112 would go into production. The first 112 was delivered in 1972. Variant models of the aircraft include the 111, 112, 112A, 112B, 112TC, 112TCA, 114, 114A, 114B, and 114TC.
The aircraft was powered by a 200 hp Lycoming IO-360 engine. A number of improvements were made to the Commander 112 in 1974. These included an internally-redesigned wing with increased fuel capacity and a 100 lb increase in maximum takeoff weight. These aircraft were marketed at the 112A. In 1976, a new model of the 112 was introduced, the Commander 112TC with a turbocharged engine of 210 hp and another increase in maximum takeoff weight. The 114 was also introduced in 1976 with a more powerful260 hp six-cylinder Lycoming IO-540 engine.
