Maule M-5 Aircraft Information
The Maule M-5 series is the STOL (short takeoff and landing) development of the Maule M-4 series. The M-5 features four-seat, single-engine monoplanes with steel-tube structures and fabric covered high-wings. The M-5 has a cantilever tailplane that has a single fin and rudder. The landing gear has a fixed tailwheel. Two prototypes flew in 1974 one with a 210 hp engine and the other with a 220 hp engine.
Variations of Maule M-5 series are: M-5-180 (initial production model with a Lycoming O-360-C1F engine), M-5-200 (the one aircraft fitted with a 200 hp engine), M-5-210C Strata Rocket (a 180C with a Continental IO-360-D engine), M-5-210TC Lunar Rocket (a 210C powered by a Lycoming TO-360 turbocharged engine), M-5-220 Lunar Rocket (210C with a Franklin 6A-350-C1 engine), M-5-235C Lunar Rocket (a 210C fitted with a Lycoming O-540-J1A5D engine), and the M-6-235C Super Rocket (a 235C with a longer wingspan, more fuel capacity, larger flaps, and smaller ailerons).
