Piper Airplanes Are Rugged, Reliable, and Legendary
The Piper PA-28 line of light aircraft has been faithfully serving pilots and passengers around the world for five decades. Originally conceived as the PA-28 Cherokee, this model has found service on all corners of the globe, and in a variety of roles. Some of these units have seen service in the military, some in civilian air patrols, some as trainers, and many as personal light aircraft. All of the PA-28 models - including the Cherokee, Arrow, Pathfinder, Dakota, Archer, and Warrior airplanes, are single engine, four-place aircraft. The simplicity and ease of operation of an airplane that uses a single, piston-engine is undeniable. Lower maintenance costs and less fuel consumption are important benefits of the single engine design.
The Piper Archer Is A Modern Interpretation Of The Original 1960's Cherokee
While Piper has never made overly dramatic changes to the original Cherokee design, the Archer is certainly a more modern version of the original 1960's Cherokee. The Archer offers modern avionics, a more inviting and functional interior than earlier models, and a host of electronic safety features that was unheard of just twenty years ago. What has not changed much is the basic mission of the airplane - to provide pilots with a light, nimble, and quick airplane, at a reasonable cost.
When looking for a Piper Archer for sale, you'll see the Archer, Archer II, and Archer III. The original Archer is an evolution on the Cherokee design and adds 5" of fuselage length and ungraded aerodynamics. The Archer II boasts a tapered wing design and an extra 100 pounds of takeoff weight. The Archer III includes updated aesthetic components, and was certified in 1994. All of the Archer models share the same basic motor - the ubiquitous Lycoming O-360-A4M 4-cylinder engine. The O-360 generates 180 horsepower, which is plenty to allow for a cruising speed of 124 miles per hour, and a top speed of over 140 miles per hour.
