Cessna 340 Series Aircraft Information
Manufactured by Cessna, the Cessna 340 is a twin piston engine, pressurized business aircraft. The 340 has the capacity for one crew member and five passengers. The empty weight is 3921 lb (1780 kg) and the maximum takeoff weight is 5990 lb (2719 kg). The maximum speed is 244 knots (279 mph, 452 km/h) and the stall speed is 82 knots (94 mph, 153 km/h). The rate of climb is 1650 ft/min (8.38 m/s).
Produced from 1971 to 1984, 1351 Cessna 340s were built. Variant models include the Cessna Model 340, Cessna 340A, 335, Riley Jet Prop 340, Riley Rocket 340, and Riley Super 340. The Cessna 335 is an unpressurized version of the 340. The 335 was less expensive and less successful than the 340. The 340 was developed as a cabin-class version of the Cessna 310. A primary selling feature of the aircraft was its spacious, pressurized cabin, the first in a light twin. The wings were based on the Cessna 414, while its tail and landing gear were from the Cessna 310.
Early 340s were equipped with two turbocharged Continental TSIO-520-K engines with 285 hp each. The engines were upgraded on the 340A model to more powerful Continental TSIO-520-NB engines for 310 hp in 1976. The 340A also features smaller 75.5 inch diameter propellers to reduce noise and meet ICAO Annex 16 noise requirements. The 335 were powered by 300 hp Continental TSIO-520-EB engines.
