American Champion Scout Aircraft Information
The American Champion 8GCBC Scout is a two seat general aviation aircraft. Generally used for personal or commercial use but it can also be utilized for bush flying, glider or banner towing, pipeline patrol, and agriculture due to its STOL (short takeoff and landing) ability. The empty weight of the aircraft is 1,400 lbs (635 kg) and the maximum takeoff weight is 2,150 lbs (975 kg). The cruising speed is 112 mph (180 km/h), the stall speed is 54 mph (86 km/h), and the maximum speed is 162 mph (260 km/h).
The Scout is a single engine aircraft with fixed conventional landing gear and tandem seating. The main body of the Scout is welded metal tubing with the outer fuselage made of wooden longerons and formers and are covered with fabric as are the wings and tail surfaces. The wings of the 8GCBC feature aluminum ribs and are strut braced. Later models of the aircraft feature aluminum gear legs.
