Cessna 185 Series Aircraft Information
Also known as the Skywagon, the Cessna 185 is a six-seat, single-engine, general aviation light aircraft. The capacity of the 185 is one crew member and five passengers. The empty weight is 1748 lb (793 kg) and the gross weight is 3350 lb (1520 kg). The cruise speed is 145 knots (167 mph, 269 km/h), stall speed is 49 knots (56 mph, 91 km/h), and the aircraft should not exceed a speed of 155 knots (178 mph, 287 km/h).
The Cessna 185 was produced from 1961 to 1985 with over 4400 built. Civil variants include the Cessna Model 185 Skywagon, 185A Skywagon, 185B Skywagon, 185C Skywagon, 185D Skywagon, 185E Skywagon, Cessna 185F Skywagon, A185E Skywagon and AGcarryall, and A185F Skywagon and AGcarryall. Military variants include the U-17A, U-17B, and U-17C. The 185 is a high-winged aircraft with non-retractable conventional landing gear and a tailwheel.
The 185 is similar to a Cessna 180 with a strengthened fuselage. The Cessna 185 has a larger vertical fin and is powered by the 300 hp Continental IO-520-D engine. The aircraft can be fitted with floats, amphibious float, of skis. A 151 US gallon belly chemical tank and removable spray booms form aerial application are added to the AGcarryall variant. A cargo pod that can carry an extra 300 lb (136 kg) can also be fit under the fuselage. The Cessna 185 is widely used in bush flying, commercial transport of passengers and freight to remote austere airstrips and floatplane and ski-plane accessible lakes and snowfields, mainly in Canada and Alaska.
